Potatoes NZ Inc. proudly sponsors, provides or participates in a variety of educational programmes nationwide. Education of the general public and in particular future generations is key to ensuring the ongoing consumption of potatoes in New Zealand.
Potatoes NZ Inc. Consumer Website – all age groups
Re-developed in 2013 to focus on the key messages of health, versatility, convenience and sustainability with a wide range of resources and information available on the site.
Stand Children’s Services – primary
Provision and co-ordination of resources in the “Spudtacular” programme run in the Stand Children’s Services Villages (over 1700 children in 2012).
Just Cook – young families
Co-sponsor of the Just Cook programme run by the NZ Nutrition Foundation. Provision of potato related recipe cards for use in the programme.
National Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge – teenagers
Sponsor of the NSSCC run by City & Guilds with 10 regional competitions culminating in a national final judged by celebrity chefs. Potato is specified as the starch in the main and Potatoes NZ Inc. is able to use the recipes and images from the competition.
NZ Culinary Fare – young adults
Sponsor of the NZ Culinary Fare run by the Chefs Association.
The NZ Culinary Fare sees secondary students, hospitality students and industry professionals line up in a range of competitions designed to test talent and technical skill. Three days of competitions see over 660 competitors from high school and university, apprentice chefs, and fully trained hospitality employees in over 60 classes. Over 7000 trade members, family, friends and public attended the event in 2014.
Potato is specified as the starch in the beef, pork and duck competitions and Potatoes NZ Inc. is able to use the recipes and images from the competition.
