2016 PNZ Inc. AGM

The Potatoes NZ Inc. annual conference is an opportunity for growers to discuss important issues for the industry, share information and hear from local and overseas experts.

The Potatoes NZ Inc. Annual General Meeting is held as part of the Potatoes NZ Inc. conference.  All levy payers are able to attend the PNZ Inc. AGM component of the Conference free of charge (that is no registration fee applies for the AGM session).  However to attend any other sessions at the Potatoes NZ Inc. conference, registration fees will apply.

 

PNZ Inc. Funding:

Potatoes NZ Inc. only fund the attendance of the PNZ Board, PNZ sub-committee members (members as at 23rd June each year), PNZ employees and conference speakers.

This funding includes:

  • Registration costs – single day conference registration at early bird rate and if booked by PNZ staff only.
  • Airfares – return flights only if booked directly by PNZ staff.
  • Accommodation – one night if they do not normally reside within the local area.

 

AGM & Conference 2015 – 23/24 July – Ashburton

 

Traditionally PNZ Inc. has joined with the other vegetable product groups to share a day at the Horticulture NZ Conference.   Unfortunately the 2015 HortNZ Conference was held on 28th and 29th July, the same dates as the World Potato Congress being held in China.

 

To enable potato industry members to also attend the World Potato Congress, the Potatoes NZ Inc. 2015 Annual General Meeting and Conference was held on the 23rd and 24th July in Ashburton.

 

Thursday 23rd July

 The FAR Potato R & D Session: – This was run by FAR on the 23rd July during the 2nd day of the FAR 2015 Conference.

 

This session featured:

    • Dr David Firman, NIAB CUF, Improving potato yields – research, development and extension
    • Ms Jen Linton, FAR, and Alex Michel, Plant & Food Research, Role of irrigation in increasing yield in potato crops
    • Mr Peter Wright, Plant & Food Research, Crop rotation trial – lessons for growers
    • Prof Richard Falloon, Plant & Food Research, Impact of cultural controls on soil borne diseases in New Zealand potatoes
    • Dr Jessica Dohmen-Vereijssen, Plant & Food Research, Future options for TPP management
    • Mr Paul Olsen, Nuffield Scholar, Nuffield findings and future of potatoes

 

Friday 24th July

PNZ Inc. Conference

Included:

  • Morning Sessions:

The 2015 conference featured main and concurrent breakout sessions which were targeted at key sector interests.

Concurrent sessions (two sessions with 4 topics each session) were provided on issues of particular interest to exporters, seed growers and fresh growers/marketers as well as on farm topics around irrigation.

  • Afternoon Sessions:

Field Trip – The afternoon began with a packed lunch and bus ride to visit a local potato growing operation as well as a presentation from Ravensdown on their latest developments and a visit to the Storage Hub, a centralised crop storage facility in Rakaia.

FAR R & D Wrap UP Session – Back to the venue for the FAR Research and Development wrap up session which updated attendees on the project pipeline and provided an opportunity to provide feedback to FAR on any issues relating to current or future potato research.

The conference closed at 4pm.
