Food intolerance and allergies

Potatoes can be used in the following exclusion diets:

  • Gluten free

  • Wheat free
  • Dairy free
  • Egg free
  • Nut free
  • Low chemical (white peeled potatoes)
  • Moderate chemical
  • Low FODMAP

Care needs to be taken that intolerant foods are not added to potatoes during preparing, cooking and serving. We recommend people following exclusion diets consult a Dietitian for an individualised eating plan.

FODMAP

The low FODMAP diet was developed in 1999 by Australian, Dr Sue Shepherd, and has been shown to help 3 out of 4 people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Potatoes can be included on a low FODMAP diet. It is estimated IBS could effect 15% of the population.
