The Potato Business School Scholarship aims to encourage involvement, support professional development and increase skills in the potato industry. It supports research and development into all aspects of the farming and sale of potatoes and potato products and the general development and promotion of the potato industry.
Potatoes New Zealand recognises the importance of capacity building and skill development so established the Potato Business School Scholarship for applicants interested in furthering their knowledge and skills at Emmeloord in The Netherlands.

Professional Development and Training Areas
The Potato Business School offers a practical course that builds skills in:
- Variety selection
- Seed quality management
- Fertilisation
- Crop protection
- Mechanisation
- Storage
- Farm management.
Applicants must describe how building skills in these areas will increase their ability to positively contribute to the potato industry.
Eligibility
- Open to individuals directly involved in the production phase, with a minimum of one year working in the potato industry.
- Applicants must be working or studying in New Zealand and must be a New Zealand citizen / permanent resident.
- Investment is not retrospective and must be for a future purpose.
Application Writing Tips
- Write in English: Applications in other languages will not be accepted.
- Check your work: Make sure your answers make sense. Use correct English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Keep answers concise: Make sure each answer is written in a clear, concise, consistent and compelling way.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must complete the application form, and demonstrate:
- Their commitment and interest in the potato industry.
- Academic excellence, personal drive or relevant professional experience.
- Potential for positive impact on the industry.
Conditions of Entry
- Potatoes New Zealand will contribute a maximum of up to $8,000 (ex GST), which will cover travel, accommodation, course costs.
- Training / professional development must be completed before December 2026.
- Following the training, applicants must write a report detailing how they benefited from attending the course, and the benefits to the potato industry (estimate 2-3 pages with photos or a small video which provides evidence of participation). This may be used for Potatoes New Zealand promotional purposes.
- Applicants must be currently working in the New Zealand potato industry and are over 18 years of age.
NOTE: Potatoes New Zealand reserves the right to accept or reject any or all of the nominations.
