Eurogrow Potatoes is the leading supplier of seed potatoes in New Zealand and has been operating in New Zealand since 1984. Trading is primarily in proprietary lines sourced from the leading potato breeders throughout the world.
Potato genetics provide the answer to most production challenges. Varieties are in demand that provide resistance to diseases, drought tolerance, require lower fertiliser inputs yet still produce good yields.
Eurogrow is strongly linked to powerhouse larger potato breeders in Europe, and also to smaller breeding houses in Europe, United Kingdom and USA, and New Zealand’s own Plant & Food Research.
Varieties produced by these breeding partners are exclusively managed by Eurogrow. After undergoing extensive regional trials throughout New Zealand, the top performers are released for commercial production.
Eurogrow History
- Eurogrow began in New Zealand in 1984 by Dutch immigrants Anton Vollebregt and Marien de Ruyter, who introduced European varieties including Agria to growers.
- In 1998 they sold the business to Wrightson Limited and the current General Manager, Tony Hendrikse started with Eurogrow at this time.
- In 2003 the commercial grower arm of Dawes Produce was acquired, adding Moonlight to Eurogrow’s already strong variety portfolio.
- Wrightson Limited sold the business to Tony Hendrikse along with three other business partners, in 2005.
