Connect and network with young people in the potato industry to learn and share your ideas.

The Youth Council aims to provide a platform for young people to represent interests of youth, to foster growth, and to encourage leadership within the industry. The Youth Council will also strive to grow and progress the industry.

Eligibility 

• All people (aged between 16 to 30 as at 1 January 2025) associated with or involved in the potato industry are eligible. 
• Applicants can nominate themself or may be nominated by their grower business. 
• Applicants must complete the application form below.

Youth Council Expectations

Youth Council member roles are focused on strategic level decisions for the network, with the group being designed as small, agile, strategic-focused, and with the ability to leverage the network, ambassadors, and advisors.

Being a council member will involve:

• Attending five meetings per year (two in person and three online). The in-person meetings will be held in various parts of the country and may involve overnight stays) as well as attending activities and events on representing the council.
• It is expected that 6 to 10 days a year would need to be committed.
• Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by Potatoes New Zealand.
• Youth Council members will work together to provide a vision and voice for youth in the potato industry.

Application Overview

• Youth Council members will actively participate in meetings and discussions, bringing the youth perspective to the forefront. 
• They will engage in initiatives to improve the youth experience, skills development, and industry representation. 
• Youth Council members will collaborate with the Potatoes New Zealand Board and share insights at designated events. 

Application Process

To apply for the Youth Council, please follow these steps: 

1. Prepare your application materials: 
   • Write a personal statement about what you bring and how you can contribute to the Youth Council.

2. Submit your application: 
   • Complete the form below with as much detail as possible.

3. Application deadline: 
   • Make sure your application is submitted by the application closing date of midday Friday 7 February 2025. 
     
4. Selection process:
   • A selection panel consisting of Potatoes New Zealand staff and board representatives will review all applications. 
   • All applicants will be notified of the selection outcomes. 
   • A maximum of ten people will make up the Potatoes New Zealand Youth Council.

• Applicants must complete the application and demonstrate:
  • Their commitment and interest in the potato industry.
  • Academic excellence, personal drive or relevant professional experience.
  • Potential for making a positive impact on the potato industry.
