Michelle and her husband Leighton own and operate Pye Group, a large-scale agricultural business with dairy, cropping, process vegetable, grazing, transport and contracting operations. They live near Winchester and farm in both the Mid and South Canterbury regions.
Michelle has an accounting background and after working in their business for over 20 years is now in a position where she can spend time away from work giving back to the industries and communities that have helped them grow and develop their business. This is why she decided to join the Potatoes New Zealand Board in 2021.
Along with working within Pye Group and being a Potato New Zealand Board member, she is the chair of The Potato Seed Co-op Ltd and an elected member of Timaru District Council. Michelle is a strong supporter of co-operatives having spent five years on the Fonterra Co-operative Council and two years on the Fonterra Sustainability Advisory Panel.
Outside of work, Twizel is Michelle’s happy place and twice a year she enjoys taking part in the Spring and Summer Challenge adventure races.
