The Potatoes NZ Inc. Innovation Group is working hard to identify opportunities for the wider industry to develop new products out of potatoes. One programme they have identified which may be of interest to potato industry participants is run by Massey University.
Massey University’s Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health is an example of one such group. Their Food Technology 4th Year Students undertake a substantial research or development project which equates to a quarter of their final year programme (approximately 400 hours work).
These projects are directly relevant to the needs of industry sponsors, and in return the sponsors benefit from the information developed.
The project is an original investigation of an opportunity or problem encountered by the food industry. The research may include an area a company would like to explore, research into an existing process or product/ingredient, or development of a new product or process. Naturally the university holds in strictest confidence any commercially sensitive information.
So what does it cost to be a project sponsor? The standard fee is $2,500 plus GST payable to the university.
