Industry Excellence Recognised at 2025 Potato Industry Awards

Christchurch, New Zealand – 14 August 2025

The finest in Aotearoa’s potato sector were honoured this week at the 2025 Potato Industry Awards, held as part of the Potatoes New Zealand Conference at Christchurch Town Hall.

The awards celebrate individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions through leadership, innovation, research, and long-standing commitment to the success and sustainability of the potato industry.

The 2025 award recipients are:

  • Shining Star Award Winner – Jamie Wells – for showing leadership potential and commitment to advancing potato farming. 
  • Sustainability Award Winner – Matt and Heidi Hart – for making significant strides in sustainable practices, from soil health to water conservation. 
  • Innovation Award Winner – Potato Seed Cooperative – for introducing innovative technology and/or farming methods in their operation. 
  • Community Award Winner – Andy and Tracey McKay – for making a positive impact on the community or has supported their local community.
  • Life Member Award Winners – for providing long standing and distinguished service to the potato industry.

Chair of Potatoes New Zealand, Paul Olsen, praised the winners, saying, “These awards recognise those who have gone above and beyond for the benefit of the entire sector. Their work strengthens our industry and sets a standard for excellence.”

CEO Kate Trufitt added, “The potato industry continues to evolve through the efforts of passionate, dedicated people. Each of these winners has played a vital role in helping us grow a resilient and innovative future.”

The awards ceremony was a highlight of the two-day conference, which brought together growers, processors, researchers, and industry partners under the theme Innovating for the Future.
