The Potatoes New Zealand Board and team would like to acknowledge the death of Ron Gall, this week. Ron was the Business Manager for Potatoes NZ from 1991-2012 and put our industry on the world stage when hosting the 7th World Potato Congress and International Year of the Potato in 2009. He made an outstanding 21 year contribution to Horticulture NZ and is remembered fondly by those who knew him. Deepest sympathies to his wife Gail and family. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Lychgate Funerals, 7 Johnsonville Rd, Wellington, on Monday, May 31, at 12.00pm, followed by a private cremation. Messages to the family can be sent to Lychgate Funerals, 306 Willis Street, Aro Valley, Wellington 6011. www.lychgate.co.nz PNZ NEWS The MBIE final report on the investigation into European Processed Potato dumping is available here. MBIE have concluded that there is minimal dumping, not enough to suggest threat nor to warrant tariffs. PNZ are consulting with processors and the PNZ Board to decide next steps. PNZ continues to engage with industry at our Grower Insights Meetings, the most recent was in Ashburton to a large group of 25. These meetings are listed on our events page and enable growers to let us know what their challenges are, and how we can best support. It’s also an opportunity for a farmer to farmer exchange of ideas and learnings. It’s also where we are gathering info through a grower survey about FEPs and Farm Environment Management. If you wish to complete the 3-5 minute grower survey at home, you can download it here. Next Grower Insight meeting is in Palmerston North at the Distinction Hotel, 29th June. Details here. PNZ COMMS & ENGAGEMENT Due to uncertainty with pandemic alerts we are pivoting from our usual Biennial Conference to a roadshow from Canterbury to Pukekohe. These 2 Potato Industry Forums are listed on our website and held in Winter when growers have more time to attend a daylong event. More info to come as we finalise the programme.
