PNZ NEWS
Progress on our Pandemic Recovery & Transformation Plan.
The research informing our plan has 3 main pathways:
Market Research – who is buying what, where. You can now view the Market Research Report on our website here
Grower Research – how are growers responding to the crisis and how is their confidence. This report has been shared with the board
Economic Research – what are domestic and global trends indicating for the recovery period domestically and in trade. This report is a living file and is currently informing our potato processing emergency measures application with government.

PNZ Process Sector Recovery is being informed by a sub-committee with processor representatives, Chair Stuart Wright, grower Guy Slater and the PNZ team. We are currently completing our government application for Emergency Measures. This will be submitted by the end of June 2020.Regional Plan Change Updates:
Waikato PC1

PNZ did not submit on this Plan Change, but Hort NZ did
PNZ are currently determining with the board, as to whether we appeal with, or in addition to Hort NZ appeal, before the 4th July
PNZ will carry out 3 case studies of FEPs and consent process in Pukekohe, to determine the technical difficulties that Waikato PC1 presents our industry, in order to support any appeal to Waikato Council
View Waikato PC1 FAQs in the Plan Changes section on our webpage here or direct download here.

Horizons PC2 & ECAN PC7
view the timelines for processes here in the Plan Changes section of the webpage
PC2 & PC7 PNZ submissions are on the same webpage.

Any queries contact Chris.Claridge@potatoesnz.co.nz.

Sustainable Vegetable Systems Project (PNZ-79):  We are in the final stages of the funding contract for SVS and will soon send an update to all stakeholders. We plan to present an overview at the Horticulture NZ AGM this year. SVS outcomes will play a vital role in providing farmer tools to meet regulatory changes. Check out the Join the Dots report here to get an idea of problem solving using FEPs and read the latest SVS update.

Biosecurity incursion – Tomato Red Spider Mite
Please go to our Biosecurity Updates page here to read the recent notices about this newly arrived pest.

Chemical compliance news
25th June 2020: The EPA determined in May that grounds exist to reassess fenamiphos, diazinon and methamidophos, with a view to reconsidering their current phase-out timings.
The next stage of the reassessment process requires an application to the EPA by Market Access on behalf of industry. This application will outline the case for delaying the phaseouts and provide details on the efforts that have been undertaken to identify alternatives to replace them for the key critical uses that we are requesting they be retained for.
If you feel strongly about the use of these chemicals please contact the PNZ Technical Manager Iain Kirkwood 027 240 1092 by Thursday 02 July 2020.
