PNZ NEWS Horizons Council have published their notice about decisions on Plan Change 2. You can read it and the Horticulture New Zealand summary of the decisions on our website here under the Horizons column of files. The MBIE interim report on the investigation into European Processed Potato dumping is available here. Expect further media commentary on this. Processors and growers have been pleased with the traction we have had in the media and the consumer support for NZ Fries and buying local product. Grower frustration at supermarket conduct on issues such as crates, packaging, grower identity and home-branding may well be addressed if we participate in the Commerce Commission Survey underway at present. Letters to the Commerce Commission can be emailed to znexrgfghqvrf@pbzpbz.tbig.am or contact trzzn.pneebyy@cbgngbrfam.pb.am and she will ensure the feedback is included in any communication on behalf of industry. All grower feedback remains anonymous. Supermarkets and NZ food & Grocery Council have already submitted responses to the first stage of the CC survey and these can be read here. Foodstuffs make a lengthy defense of home-branding. PNZ COMMS & ENGAGEMENT Due to pandemic alert level uncertainties we are pivoting from our usual Biennial Conference to a roadshow from Canterbury to Pukekohe. These 2 Potato Industry Forums are listed on our website and held in Winter when growers have more time to attend a daylong event. More info to come as we finalise the programme. PNZ will also be engaging with industry throughout the year at our Grower Insights Meetings. These are also listed on our events page. We are keen to hear what your challenges are, and how we can best support you. It’s also an opportunity for a farmer to farmer exchange of ideas and learnings. PNZ will be talking with you the grower, face-to-face and over the phone for our grower survey about FEPs and Farm Environment Management. This opportunity for grower feedback to PNZ continues with the 2nd of our Grower Insights meetings, on May 17th in Ashburton. Details here. If you wish to complete the 3-5 minute grower survey at home, you can download it here. Growers and key stakeholders are asked to keep an eye on their mailbox for the Autumn mailout.
