Read the latest news, admin, NZSPCA and technical below. The industry has been hit again by wild weather, this time in Canterbury. The PNZ team are very aware of the level of stress on growers, the wider industry and associated organisations, even at the bureaucratic level. The weather events, Covid-19, serious flu, staffing issues and the more political and economic issues, make for trying times indeed. In part, this has meant a decision to postpone the 2022 PNZ Conference until next year. Our team will continue focusing on our regional meetings & project extension events. We want to encourage you all to rest as needed, only do high priority tasks and ask for help. Please remember the support services that are available, in particular Farmstrong and the Rural Support as well as 1737 – Need to Talk? Foot-and-mouth disease is in many countries including parts of central Africa, the Middle East and Asia. An outbreak has been declared in Indonesia including Bali, a popular holiday destination. Check whether any of the countries you are visiting have FMD. FMD is easy to spread and hard to stop so prevention is key.Biosecurity New Zealand has outlined the simple things travellers must do to protect against FMD:Travelers to New Zealand must declare all goods, equipment, and food that could carry unwanted pests or diseases into New ZealandTravelers must also declare when they have been in contact with livestockDon’t bring in animal products such as meatEnsure that you clean your footwear before departure. On arrival to New Zealand, there is a one week stand down period from the time that a person arrives from a country overseas with FMD, to the time that they go onto a New Zealand farm or have contact with susceptible animals in New Zealand Fall Armyworm – growers across the North Island are urged to keep a close eye out for caterpillars on volunteer maize and corn plants.
