PNZ NEWS
Our event planning for 2022 may be uncertain but our primary focus on research and extension, to enable a sustainable and secure future for our members, stays on track.
We encourage growers and industry to stay in touch, attend any events that we manage to run and be prepared on farm and in business for the arrival of the latest Covid variant.
There will be no PNZ field walks this Summer, but we intend to visit growers for meetings and regional insights. At this stage we also hope to hold a conference and separate agronomist forum in the Winter.
We regularly update our PNZ Covid-19 webpage which includes:
Template for Covid-19 on farm planning. You can also direct download the template here.

PNZ COMMS & ENGAGEMENT
ECAN PC7 The Canterbury Land and Water Plan now recognises the importance of commercial vegetable growing and provides a workable consent pathway. We thank growers and processors who submitted and presented alongside PNZ.
We have updated our Regulation page with relevant key points from the recent vote on PC7 changes.

He Waka Eke Noa
The HWEN Partnership is gearing up for widespread engagement with farmers, growers and other interested people in the primary sector through February.
Farmers will be able to let HWEN know what they think of pricing options for agricultural emissions.
There are 2 options on the table – a farm-level levy and a processor-level hybrid levy.
The other way to price emissions would be to include agricultural emissions in the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS), described as the ‘backstop’ option.  The Government has already legislated to include agricultural emissions in the NZ ETS but agreed to consider the Partnership’s recommendations for an effective and workable alternative outside the NZ ETS.

HWEN will be releasing a consultation document on the He Waka Eke Noa website on Monday 31 January 2022.
Horticulture NZ are organising meetings for growers around the country.
FAR have written as useful summary of HWEN progress on their website here.
We have republished a recent HortNZ article on HWEN on our website here.
